Designed by Ong & Ong, this house in Singapore is one of the greatest examples of modern and minimalist house design. Even though it’s so contemporary it also is very well balanced with nature. The concept of the design is to create open and filled with light living space which also has some privacy. The first floor has glazed walls that leads directly to the pool. This pool with a garden near by separates house for two pieces and is a perfect place to relax and spent time with friends and family. The entire second floor in the main section of the house is allocated for a master bedroom/study space with an en suite bathroom. The interior is done in minimalist style with modern materials and hidden TV and music appliances.

Home decorInterior design ideas these days are dime a 12. If you watch a television show that is dedicated to interior designing for one hour, once you come out, you would have enough knowledge that you can design for complete home. The main drawback of a television show when compared to applying these ideas in life is these are tough to document. If you don’t sit next or in front of the TV and scribble down madly onto paper piece, it is really difficult to remember all the ideas that you get watching the show. The key for a successful interior designing is planning.Replicating or trying to copy an idea or design from a TV show for your home could include additional planning or steps which might not be shown in an hour or a thirty – minutes of a show.

This being the reason it is necessary for one to go through the entire dry run of the design or idea before we actually execute it. There is a fair chance for figuring out and taking corrective measures to make sure a hassle free application. The only resource for ideas and information for interior designs is not Television. Books always remain as a better help for designers of any experience and background. The information we get in the books is more or less explanative and thought-out material when compared to a TV show. As book demand more basic information and material than a Television show can have in a limited segment of time. Not only this, books are written by two or three authors together for such subjects and are also edited before it is released to the readers in any form. So, the information would be edited and re-written by two to three parties. Exceptions for the rules are always there but, this would be the normal scenario. If you feel reading a book is time consuming for tedious task, then you can always choose to read a magazine article as another source of information for interior design. You always have the benefit of pictures or visual representations of the designs and its concepts in a magazine that you can look into or hold on for a particular period of time. Professional interior designers collect all these articles in big numbers along with the visuals and keep them in a format that can be accessible to everyone easily. This is a perfect source for getting specific information, feel or look that is difficult to describe in actual terms of industry for a client. Terminology used in these articles are self-explanatory although people who don’t have much expose to this jargons might find it difficult to understand few phrases or concepts that are used to define the interior design areas. Most of us are aware of the words ‘modern’ and ‘traditional’ design but, the magazines would not find it difficult to say ‘Americana’ or ‘Minimalist’ for these terms.

You need not think its incomplete just because you are not aware of these phrases, you have to understand that the process of learning takes time and hence is exactly termed as a process. If you have enough creative ideas with you, go through different magazines and have an unique and distinct style design for your work that are within the ideas and guidelines for interior designing. If you feel you are not much comfortable with your style and find it easy in the traditional design segment, then collate all the ideas pertaining to this category and stick to the ideas or guidelines provided in the information you have collected.Taking a little of information from these various sources and compile them into a creative collection of ideas that can help you access this information any time in future to compare with your own vision and ides would be a best way to understand information.

The Elements of Commercial Interior Design Ideas

The Elements of Commercial Interior Design Ideas
The Elements of Commercial Interior Design Ideas
The Elements of Commercial Interior Design Ideas
Every detail comes into play in creating an atmosphere within the office - this atmosphere is likely to influence how employees work and how incoming clients view the company based on how they feel in the office.

One of the most basic elements of commercial interior design is color palette. Bright colors like reds, oranges, and yellows do not usually work well in an office setting. Pastels and other soft hues are popular choices in wall color for commercial buildings because they are subtle and contrast well with the dark furniture styles favored by many offices. A pastel color palette does not need to be boring, however; commercial interior design is rife with small details that, pulled together, form a professional atmosphere that inspires comfort and trust. Accents such as molding and trim painted in contrast colors work well in a commercial setting to add a little bit of interest without detracting from the whole image.

Lighting, the next element, goes hand in hand with color palette in all facets of interior design, but lighting can be especially important in commercial or office settings. It can be difficult to design a lighting system which provides adequate illumination to facilitate productive work without taking away from the tone set by the color palette. Some offices choose to forego harsh overhead lighting, opting instead for lamps stationed on individual desks and soft wall lighting to provide gentle illumination. Some commercial settings require overhead lighting, however, and in these cases it is important to find light fixtures that will provide adequate illumination without being too harsh or glaring.

Furniture is the third of the key elements in commercial interior design. Many businesses choose dark furniture because it contrasts well with the pastel hues on the walls and because it looks more professional than the lighter finishes of oak and pine. There are a variety of furniture styles to choose from and most of the choice relies solely upon the desires of the designer. It is important, however, to retain cohesiveness throughout the office. All of these factors come into play in commercial interior design and, if properly managed, interior design can change the look and feel of a business for the better

Some of the most popular exteriors in America are Modern, Art Deco, Victorian and Colonial Revival. Logically, many of these home owners would choose to complement the home interior design by using unified elements. If the exterior is an Arts and Craft bungalow, for instance, you may want neutral tone walls, stained glass lights and mission oak furniture. However, if you have a Cape Cod, then a country theme might be more appropriate for your interior. You can gain insight and custom designs from a trained professional to help you make the best choices.

Art Deco first gained popularity in the 1920s. While the glitz, glamour and gaudiness diminished following the Great Depression, there is still a soft spot in the American heart for the lost innocence of this classic time period. In the twenties and thirties, the professional interior designer saw Art Deco as both elegant and ultra-modern. Combining aspects of airplane design and Futurism with Old World mosaic patterns and Cubism, the end result was something very interesting that spoke to the aristocracy who wanted nothing bland or boring.

Borrowing from austere stainless steel but also exotic zebra skin and saturated modern colors, Art Deco interior design trends offer the homeowner a museum-type vibe with an array of conversation pieces. Curved mirrors, Tiffany lamps, lacquered furniture, velvet drapes, silk lamp shades, small furniture, thick carpeting and symmetrical geometric shape patterns can all add a hint of Deco to a room. "It's about glamour and getting a glimpse of those bygone days where TV was less important and it was about cocktail hour and company," furniture designer Barclay Butera tells HGTV.

The Arts and Crafts home interior design style took America and Great Britain by storm from 1850 through to 1920. Following the advent of mass production and rampant industrialism, artists like John Ruskin and William Morris called for a return to rustic craftsmanship. Simplicity meets high quality with clean, elegant furniture that is as practical as it is beautiful. William Morris said in 1882, "Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful."

Match Blinds And Curtains To Create Stunning Contemporary Interiors

Bedroom Design
Bedroom Design
Today's interior design focus on maximising space by having only the barest of furniture without any nik-naks on display, everything neat, tidy and in it's place. Do most people's homes look like that in reality or is it just a pipe dream for most?

If most people were honest it's how they would like to live and it may be possible for singles and couples, however once a family starts to grow homes take on a a new lease of life in many different ways! If you really adore the sleek, clean lines of contemporary design styles keeping them completely clutter free is virtually impossible once babies and children arrive!

The master bedroom may be one place where you can keep true to your favoured design style, which just help you struggle your way through sleepless nights and crack of dawn awakenings! However, the chances of it remaining entirely child free is somewhat remote as you won't be able to resist the temptation to have a least one photograph either on the dressing table or wall!

Dream homes are brilliant ways to be inspired and re-focus. It is even most to imitate the styles you see without having to have the designer price tag attached. Look for blinds and curtains made from the same fabrics and in the same colour. Have subtle hints of the same colour on your pillow slips and your room can be simply and affordably transformed.

The one saving grace for these contemporary interiors is they actually take far less time to clean and tidy, which in itself is an inspirational reason for creating them!

Don't Restrict The Use Of Blinds Just For Windows!

The humble blind has more uses than purely window treatments. With a little ingenuity and the necessity to either keep the sun light out along with prying eyes, blinds of all types can be used throughout your home.

Roller or Roman blinds are ideal to use on back doors which are half glass. Wonderful country cottage looks can be achieved using either a plain neutral colour or a beautiful floral fabric, whilst modern homes look equally stunning with bold stripes or patterned blinds.

Blinds are also a great way to cover shelving in alcoves in older styles of home as they are easy to operate along with giving full exposure to the space when it needs to be utilised. Venetian blinds can work equally as well to give a contemporary look when the latest mirrored or perforated designs are used.

Swag and tail curtains typically are used in conjunction with a roller or vertical blinds as this enables privacy at night without having to disrupt the glorious chic look of the curtains. Homes which have pristine window dressing, such as swags and tails, which always look immaculate are created by always leaving the curtains exactly in place! This 'trick of the trade' can also be used to have stunning window dressings without having to have the usual amounts of curtain fabric, however once you have made the choice just to have swags and tails for show only, you will not be able to close them completely even if you wanted to, so give careful consideration as to the disadvantages this may have particularly during the winter months when you need to reduce heat loss through your windows by closing the curtains at night.

Inexpensive Bathroom Makeovers To Beat The Winter Blues!

One of the latest design trends is 'colour clashing' or choosing colours which are not usually recognised as being compatible. An excellent example of this is lime green coordinated with plum or aubergine or burnt orange teamed with ochre. Therefore if you have an old style bathroom suite colour of sage green coordinating with white tiles along with stripped floorboards, also painted white, and replacing your current window dressing with a white blind will provide a striking style which will not appear so out of fashion!

Likewise if you have a powder blue bath opt for a contemporary look by decorating the room with a vibrant contrasting colours such as post box red for a trendy and fun look. Of course you can always opt for a vintage look by coordinating powder blue with candy floss pink, along with a floral theme which provides a country cottage style with touches of pale green or cream.

Change the blinds for styles with spotty fabric in sherbet shades and add a chair with the seat recovered in a candy coloured stripes. Include vintage pieces such as large jugs and bowls to add focal points to the room, along with subtle touches of cohesion by having towels edged with the same fabric as the chair seat or blinds.

Above all have fun mixing colours and rather than be depressed by your old bathroom suite turn it to your advantage by simply adding new aspects which will lift your morale and beat the winter blues!

The 4 C's ! Create Colour Coordinated Chic!

You have probably heard of the three R's in the UK, but have you ever heard of the 4 C's?
* Create
* Colour
* Coordinated
* Chic

Interior design styles which are easy to achieve and inexpensive can easily be put together if you think of the 4 C's!

Create: How you create your interior design style reflects your personality and shows people more than you may expect about yourself and your preferred lifestyle! Therefore think wisely about your choices, don't merely opt for the latest fashion fad in interior design, create styles which you enjoy and love being in!

Colour: The colours you choose says a lot about you! And whilst you may not be one for old wives tales and past folklore, colour therapists will beg to differ as the colour used in your home has hidden meanings whether you are aware of them or not!

Coordinated: Coordinating does not necessarily mean everything has to match. What it does mean it that to create a coordinated look to your home you should choose colours which compliment each other, along with a strong accent colour. The term 'strong' does not have to be taken literally, meaning you have to have at least one controlling shade or tone! Soft pastels such as soft candy pink or duck egg blue can be excellent accent colours for white or ivory rooms. Use accent colours for blinds, curtains, cushions and rugs and you will pull the room together to give a sense of balance and cohesion.

Chic: This term may be open to debate and misinterpretation as one person's perception of chic may be miles apart from someone else's! The basic principle here is to keep rooms purposeful and meaning full. You can mix colours and designs to create a chic interiors which ooze stunning style, as long as they work well for you and you are comfortable living with them!

Interior Designs Picture

Developing a residential lighting plan with the help of a professional lighting designer can both magnify the general appeal of your home’s physical structure and work to unify your lifestyle with your sense of art, decorating, and peace of mind. People often feel much more comfortable in their homes after they have taken the time to invest in planning a residential home lighting design that will illuminate the finer elements of lifestyle and décor they have worked hard to give to themselves and their children.

Your residential lighting plan must emphasize your home’s exterior appearance while concealing the lighting fixtures themselves as much as possible.
Because the edifice of the home is the most prominent feature of the house and the surrounding property, exterior illumination should enhance its architectural preeminence and aesthetic. Outdoor light fixtures attached to the house itself should be concealed as much as possible to bring emphasis to the structure and avoid a sense of clutter.

To maintain a sense of harmony in one’s residence, a lighting plan must also work to unity structure and natural beauty.
Professional landscape lighting should act as a luminary mirror to house lighting. This requires consulting with a professional who is familiar with both landscaping technique and architectural theory. There are certain basic forms that occur within both natural formation and man-made creations. An expert trained to isolate these forms can in turn illuminate them in a complementary manner to emphasize the similarities and minimize the differences.

Multiple layers of light are required to effectively accomplish this.
It takes more than a single layer of illumination to highlight earthwork features such as gardens, flower beds, birdbaths, fountains, and shrubs. Trees need their own separate lighting to both illuminate leaves and branches and create special pools of luminance at the bases of their trunks. Home security lighting has to be provided with flood lighting, and special structures like patios and gazebos need both additional general lighting and low-voltage accent lighting to effectively blend form and function.

Moving toward the interior of the home, your residential lighting plan should follow the motifs of interior architecture.
Every home has its own unique look and feel. This is especially true in the world of custom homes, where an architect or home designer literally sits down and plans the living space around the lifestyle of the occupants. Whichever fixtures you install within a home have to work within the framework of the building’s interior. Since residential house lighting plans require a blend of decorative and general lighting, a lighting designer should be consulted to determine which light sources will work best to complement interior home structure and interior home decorating. Sometimes, as we see in the case of art lighting, you do not want the light source to show at all—only the subject being illuminated. At other times, however, decorative fixtures actually function as important elements of interior design. Pendants, chandeliers, and wall sconces are a few examples of lights that planners and designers often choose to make a home look truly resplendent in terms of aesthetic and décor.

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of working with a professional who can help you develop your residential lighting plan.
The larger and more sophisticated a home is, the more challenging it will be to illuminate. Specialty rooms like kitchens, guest rooms, dens, and playrooms may need a separate lighting plan to support special functions and activities that occur within those rooms. Any type of special artwork or display you have in your house will need special art lights or display lights that will properly differentiate the piece from its surroundings without overpowering the rest of your decorative scheme. Connecting these many elements together is something that is very difficult to do without special training, and is also impossible to do without specification grade equipment engineered for high-end residential lighting design.

Choosing Colours For Your Interiors!

Choosing Colours For Your Interiors! One of the greatest things about interior design is that you can opt for any style you like, it's your home and you should feel comfortable in it! You do not have to keep up with the very latest design trends to have an interior which is stunning.

If you can't decide on which colour you like best or simply have to have them all then simple aspects such as painting your cupboard doors all a different colour can look striking and very stylish! In order that the look is not overwhelmed opt for plain white blinds which enable you to control how much light and privacy you want or need.

Using Venetian styled blinds in a kitchen is ideal, particularly if they are made from metal which has been coated to help reduce dust build up as well as being very easy to keep clean, as they allow plenty of natural light to flood into the room creating a homely, bright and airy space when stacked at the top of the window or when the louvres are tilted open. If you have small windows you can further maximise the use of natural light up slightly tilting the louvres upwards which enables the light to bounce off a white ceiling.

Keep things natural in the kitchen by having easy to clean flooring around the working areas. If you have a table in your kitchen you can opt for a rug made from natural materials to keep the theme coordinated and bring a sense of homeliness as well as cohesion to the room.

Protect Your Flooring From Fading With Venetian or Vertical Blinds

Protect Your Flooring From Fading With Venetian or Vertical BlindsWooden flooring has been popular for many years, either original stripped floor boards in older styles of homes, parquet flooring in the 1960s along with the influx of laminate style flooring which is being used throughout modern homes.

Interior designers have created beautiful wooden floors which have patterns set within them providing the best of both worlds in terms of both innovation and chic style! The patterns are made from using different coloured wood in the same way as marquetry is used on furniture. Wood inlay coloured patterns can be selected to blend effortlessly with your interior design colour scheme, offering a truly remarkable floor with maximum effect.

However, anyone with a natural floor needs to take care and reduce the risk of staining by mopping up spills as quickly as possible before it has time to penetrate into the wood and also by ensuring the window dressing they choose offers flexibility and practicality in helping to reduce the floor from fading in harsh sunlight. This is of particular importance if you have south facing windows as even in the UK where people may not think there is sufficient or intense sunlight which will damage floors will be astounded to know that the UV rays can cause as much harm to your floor as they can to your skin even on the dullest of days!

Venetain or vertical blinds are the ideal solution as they can look stunning when used as the sole window treatment and equally as striking when teamed with curtains. The great advantage over having either of these styles of blinds is the amount of control you have in diffusing the light or blocking it out completely. Adjusting the louvres correctly will also help furniture and soft furnishings from fading, as well as providing privacy when needed.

Break The 'Rules' With Bold Curtains And Fabrics

Break The 'Rules' With Bold Curtains And FabricsFinding new and innovative ways to dress your windows has never been easier with the vast range of colours and styles of fabric which are widely available both on the high street and online.

Go for something daring and bold which brings nature into your home by selecting fabric which has a bold floral print in this season's in-trend colour of gorgeous lime green and white. To add further individuality and chic style to your home rather then opt for a classical curtain at each side of the window, use one wide curtain or length of fabric and sweep it from the top of the window to one side and hold in place with a tie back.

This enables the beauty of the pattern and the fabric to be seen at all times not just when the curtains are drawn together in the evenings. If floral patterns are not to your taste this style of window dressing works equally as effectively with any bold print as well as plain fabric. Keep the weight of the fabric in mind when making your choice as the lighter the weight the more fluidity it will provide.

Coordinate the colour with the rest of your interior design colour scheme or alternatively opt for a deliberate clash of colours to inject vibrancy and a sense of fun into a room. The latest colour clashing is in-vogue in a big way at present which enables you to opt for your favourite colours and do away with the usual 'rules' of interior design, which is an absolute joy for those who can never seem to get their colours coordinated correctly!

However, although colour clashing is in-vogue you do need to be a little careful otherwise you can end up with a miss-mash of colours which look more like an interior design nightmare than chic style!

Cost Effective Patchwork Revival

Cost Effective Patchwork RevivalPatchwork has been around for hundreds of years and has always been used as an effective way of recycling old or left over pieces of fabric and materials. With recession affecting people's spending power, having or using patchwork to create stunning bed covers and even curtains is back in-vogue as an effective way of recycling and making things for 'free'!

Mixing different textures of fabrics brings patchwork right up to date, as in the past it was typically only cotton fabrics which were used. Today you can make patchwork out of any type of material, including lightweight voiles and organza to create sheer curtains which let an abundance of light flood into a room in a soft and somewhat dreamy fashion making this style perfect for bedrooms!

Those who don't feel inclined of have the aptitude to make patchwork, but still adore the country cottage interior design themes and styles, will be pleased to know that it is possible to buy fabric which has the appearance of patchwork! This may be defeating the object somewhat of recycling, but it is a great way to achieve this type of interior style at affordable costs without having to wait for a patchwork to be made!

Next time you have a clear out in your wardrobe why not put the fabric to good use? Or on second thoughts look for lovely cottage style ready made curtains which can simply be hung from wooden curtain poles to achieve the same look in a fraction of the time!

Blinds Are A Cost Effective Window Dressing

Blinds Are A Cost Effective Window DressingInterior design has not only gone 'green' by using the different colour shades of green, the use of natural materials from sustainable sources is also high on many people's design agendas.

Natural cotton fabrics, Hessian and wood are among the most popular choices, combined with colour schemes which are derived from nature. Creating stunning interiors using natural materials has never been more fashionable or more affordable!

One of the most cost effective window treatments are blinds made from bamboo or wood weave materials. These have been on the market for many years as a cheap, yet effective way of covering windows. Without sounding too philosophical bamboo is one of the oldest know methods of covering openings/windows to reduce heat and stop prying eyes from looking inside people's homes.

In the 'seventies' bamboo blinds were in-vogue and where used to create natural looking interiors at affordable prices. The return to being 'closer to nature' and being 'green' has once again seen this type of blind to regain popularity as a cost effective method of providing window dressings either on their own or used in combination with curtains as no longer are they seen as a cheap and only used by students they have become common place in traditional and modern homes.

Nowadays, wood weave or bamboo blinds are used in conservatories and summer houses as an effective way to help reduce heat build-up, along with bringing nature inside the home.

Roller Blinds Remain Popular Window Dressings
